The idea behind and creation of Safely Home Again

I’m a certified Senior Home Safety Specialist®, case manager and senior advocate with extensive experience in taking care of others. I am a former nursing home administrator, executive director of an assisted living community, and executive recruiter for high-ranking professionals in the long-term care profession. I am a mom of a current law student, sister, daughter, friend, and professional in the health care business.

Born and raised in West Los Angeles; Brentwood, CA, from public schooling, to activities such as biking, walking, swimming, book clubs, and taking in the surrounding areas of Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Bel-Air and Beverly Hills. From Nat n’ Al’s in Beverly Hills; shopping in Century City heading West to Vicente Foods for their oh so popular tuna salad, continuing West on Sunset Blvd to Palisades State Beach, down Temescal Canyon all the way to beautiful Malibu. All of those areas and more were my stomping grounds then, and continue to be now. I love our neighborhoods! Traffic and all!

Madeline has her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and a Bachelor & Master of Science in Health Care Administration. She is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in the State of California as well as a certified Executive Director for Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, also known as Assisted Living Communities. She is certified as a Senior Home Safety Specialist.

Madeline is a certified member of the National Concierge Association; various Aging-In-Place Networks; Certified membership in the Foundation for Senior Services; and a long standing member of the California Association of Health Facilities.

The idea behind and creation of Safely Home Again came about quite organically

As an Administrator in skilled nursing facilities and as the Executive Director in an Assisted Living community, I witnessed first-hand the stressful and life-disrupting discharge process, not only for the person being discharged but also for family members, who suddenly found themselves responsible for ensuring their loved one’s safety and comfort at home, sometimes with as little as 24 hours notice, but many times, even much less; a same day notification and discharge common.

Upon discharge, families would frequently ask me

“I need to go to work, do you know anyone who can come to the house and assist with implementing the discharge plan and necessary post hospital tasks?”

I did not.

Many who asked were from the so-called “sandwich generation”. That is, adult children who work full-time, have their own family and business obligations to manage, take care of, but who also we also. They want to make sure that their loved ones receive all of the VIP concierge services and case management expertise that they deserve but do not have the time to do themselves, just like they would be providing to their loved ones.

Then one day, the light bulb finally went off, and in that “wow moment” SafelyHomeAgain was conceived.

Who better than me to fill that gap in service? As an administrator and someone who has always cared about others, this is a natural extension of who I have always been and speaks to why I chose senior care as my profession many years ago.
